Many people enjoy the winter snow in Michigan, but not necessarily on the sidewalks and streets. The University has staff ready to deal with snow and ice when they interfere with the campus community's ability to conduct daily activities. It is the goal of Grounds and Waste Management (GWM) to keep the University of Michigan campus open to traffic during and after any winter storm event, and to have roads, docks, walkways and ramps clear within 24 hours of the end of any winter storm event. (The first priority is to ensure access for emergency vehicles and handicap accessibility.) The Grounds Department shares responsibility for snow and ice removal on various campus properties with Parking Services (parking lots) and Building Services (building entrances). More information is available at the GWM website, including an online ability to submit requests, concerns or complaints. |
