Application Timeline: Fall | Winter | Spring, Summer

The Application Process for Entering Freshmen
University Housing welcomes all newly admitted students and extends an invitation to live in our community for the upcoming school year.

Incoming freshmen apply for housing online through an application that is available to admitted students who have paid their enrollment deposit request (EDR) or had it offically waived by. Housing assignment priority is not based on deposit date.

Schedule
The Housing Information Office begins to contact students regarding applications for each term as follows:

Fall Term: Late March
Winter Term: Late October
Spring-Summer Terms: Late March

If you have not received an email within four weeks after mailing your EDR, please contact our office. We will need to know your 8-digit U-M identification number.

Completing the Housing Application
Before completing the application, please read the View Freshman Application Details and the View Room Assignment Overview. These guidelines provide a clear outline of assignment procedures and options along with deadline dates.

  • Submitting an application is not a contractual commitment.
  • Students are not legally bound to a residence hall assignment until they sign a contract. You may also view a sample contract here.

Room Assignments and Changes
It is our goal to assign students to a room that meets all or as many of their stated preferences as possible. In some cases, however, we may not be able to accommodate student's stated choices because the requested room type or residential neighborhood is not available for a variety of reasons

Once an assignment has been offered, we do not make changes - even if the contract has not been signed. If you turn down an assignment, we will not offer you another room until the start of the term, vacancies permitting. You will have the opportunity soon after moving in to sign up on residence hall waitlists if you wish to change rooms within your original hall or relocate to another hall.

University Housing does not make room assignments and will not consider student initiated room changes based on race, religion, disability, sexual orientation*, or national origin.
