Residence Hall and Northwood III Apartment Closings

Residence halls and Northwood III will be closing for summer vacation on Saturday, May 2nd at 11 am. Residents must vacate their residence hall or apartment by this time. Spring/Summer Term housing information is available.

Dining Services During Final Exam Period

Special dining hours and locations will be in effect during final exams. Please see the Residential Dining Services for specific times and locations.

Checking Out of University Housing Facilities
Residents will be provided move-out guidelines by their residence hall or apartment staff. Check out includes turning in all University Housing-issued materials, including keys and keycards.

Extended Stays
The extended stay application is no longer available. Thank you for staying with University Housing.

MoJo photoResidence Hall Loft Removal
Residents must take down and remove any loft that was personally or commercially built (i.e., any loft that is not appropriately configured from Building Block Furniture) prior to the beginning of 24-hour quiet hours.

We encourage residents to consult recycling posters regarding disposal of loft materials. See the Student Move-Out Guide from Waste Management Services. If you had your loft installed by a commercial vendor (American Loft, Ann Arbor Lofting., Maize and Blue Loft Company), please contact them to inquire about disassembly services.

Building Block Furniture
Please leave beds in the de-bunked position when leaving for the year by returning furniture to the lowest figuration possible. A charge will be assessed to your student account for not de-bunking. In buildings where there is not enough floor space to fully de-bunk the beds, please restore to the low-loft configuration. See Damage Assessment below for actual costs.

Rental Refrigerators
It is the resident's responsibility to return any refrigerator she or he has rented from University Housing to the designated storage area in the residence hall prior to moving out. Residents will receive instructions for returning refrigerators from their residence hall.

Bicycles and Storage
Residents must remove their bicycles from University property when moving out. Abandoned bicycles will be collected by the Department of Public Safety and eventually sold if not claimed within 30 days. University Housing does not have storage available. John's Pack and Ship can be contacted regarding storage .

Image of Observatory StreetParking and Traffic During Move-Out
All City of Ann Arbor parking regulations will be in force as residents move out of the halls and apartments.

It is important to keep track of all belongings while moving out. We ask that students not leave vehicles unattended and that someone stay with items left in rooms or hallways. Moving and laundry carts or similar equipment for transporting students’ belongings to their vehicles will be available from residence hall and the Northwood Community Center.

Mail Forwarding
When you move out of a residence hall, housing staff will forward first class mail for 30 days for those students who complete the Mail Forwarding Request form.

NOTE: The mail forwarding request form is no longer available.

Unless you completed the form by May 7th, all first class mail will be returned to sender.

Northwood III residents' mail will not be forwarded by Housing staff as mail is delivered directly to apartment mailboxes.

We recommend you also change your mailing address on any credit cards, newspaper, periodical subscriptions, and other business or personal contacts.

It is also important to submit your summer address change directly to the Office of the Registrar via Wolverine Access.

Damage Assessment
There may be some situations where damage is found during the move-out process. Residence hall policies, procedures and charges regarding damage billing can be found in the Community Living at Michigan. Northwood IIII students should also refer to Vacating Your Northwood III Apartment for additional information.

Move-Out Recycling Information
Students who are moving out can recycle or donate many unwanted items and materials, including clothing, unopened food, and wood from disassembled lofts. Waste Management Services makes it easy with recycling containers, donation containers and “take it or leave it” areas at the residence halls. Northwood residents can donate items by placing them in the marked donation bins in parking lots NW1, 10, 12 and 21. There's more information at the Student Move-Out Guide site, and students can send specific questions to recycle@umich.edu .
