Admitted Students and Applying for Visas
You are strongly encouraged to apply for your U.S. student visa as soon as possible after you have received your certificate of eligibility document from the University of Michigan. It currently may take significant time for visa processing. Please allow sufficient time to plan for your travel to the United States. You should plan to obtain your visa and arrive on campus in time to attend your school or college's academic orientation program. Academic programs at Michigan are very rigorous and demanding. It is critical that you time your arrival in Ann Arbor so that you can participate from the start in your required orientation program and you are ready to start classes at the beginning of the academic term.

The section below is for the use, only, of newly admitted transfer sophomore, junior or senior level undergraduate students living outside the United States. Newly admitted and matriculated freshmen and graduate or professional level students will receive an email instructing them how to access an online housing application.

How to Request a Housing Application
In order to avoid any possible mailing delays, the best way to get an application to you is via fax. Please follow the instructions below:

1. Confirm your intent to enroll with your admitting office (and send the enrollment deposit, if required). Allow 1 - 2 weeks for this to be processed. After completing step 1, proceed to step 2.

2. Request an application by completing the Housing Application Request form below. For Spring, Summer and Fall Terms, this should be done after March 15. For the Winter Term, this should be done after October 15.

3. When completing the housing application faxed to you, refer to the information about various housing options found on University Housing's web site. On-campus housing is not guaranteed except for freshmen.

Applicants will be offered housing based on available space at the time that their application is received. Students interested in living at the Lawyers Club, Martha Cook Building, or Henderson House need to apply directly to these halls, since they make their own assignments.
