Children's Class Descriptions
We ask that parents pick up children promptly when the class is over. There are other programs that immediately follow these children's classes and we need time to clean up and set up for them. Thank you for your cooperation.
Parent
& Child (Ages 2-4)
This class is for children who have little or no experience with English.
Parents attend this class with their children and play an important part
in helping their children learn English. Children learn English through
songs, finger plays, art projects, and games. The first 20 minutes of
class will be for play and informal interaction in English. The remaining
time will include formal instruction and corresponding activities.
Pre-Kindergarten
thru First Grade (Ages 4-6 1/2)
This class is for children of preschool, kindergarten, and first grade
ages. Basic English vocabulary and U.S. culture will be taught through
songs, art projects, games, and other activities. Listening and speaking
skills will be emphasized, but basic reading and writing will also be
included. PLEASE NOTE: If your child is only four years old and has had
little experience attending preschool, we recommmend that you attend the
Parent & Child class with your child first, before registering him/her
in this class.
Afterschool Workshop
for Kids & Teens
This workshop is for children in 2nd through 5th grades, as well as for
middle and high school-aged students. It is designed to accommodate all
levels of English language ability (beginning, intermediate, and advanced).
The teacher will assess each student's language level and needs. Elementary-school-aged
children will be in a different group from middle and high school-aged
students. The students will participate in various individual and group
activities to practice and improve their English in fun, interesting,
and creative ways. They can also receive some help with their homework
from school.
Important Dates
There will be no classes on
- The first day of
class. Instead of class, teachers will hold individual appointments
with adult students and with parents and children.
- Monday, January 18 (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day)
- March 1-5 (University Winter Break)
