Teachers
The English Language Program staff are professional teachers with experience and degrees in Teaching English to Speakers of other languages, linguistics, foreign language, education, or related fields. Meet the staff through the descriptions below.

Julia Fituch coordinates and teaches in the English Language Program. She has a master’s degree in Linguistics/Teaching English as a Second Language from the University of Michigan, a secondary teaching certificate from the State of Michigan, and a bachelor’s degree in German from Wayne State University. Julia has taught English as a Second Language (ESL) at the English Language Institute of the University of Michigan. Besides teaching ESL Julia has also taught German at the University of Detroit and for Garden City Adult and Community Education. This fall, Julia will teach the After School English Workshop for Kids and Teens.

Laurie Nutt teaches and assists in the administration of the English Language Program. She has a master’s degree in Teaching English as a Second Language from Eastern Michigan University and a bachelor’s degree in History of Art from the University of Michigan. Laurie has taught English in Japan to both children and adults at the Amity English School. She has also assisted at Pound House Children’s Center and worked as a camp counselor for both children and teens. Laurie has also studied some Japanese and French. This fall, Laurie will teach Everyday Conversation and Advanced Speaking and Listening.

Alison Saalbach Corey has a master’s degree in education as well as an elementary teaching certificate from California Lutheran University.  Her teacher training included methodology for working with second language learners.   She taught Kindergarten at a private Romanian school in California, where there were children who spoke little or no English.  Alison loves to write, and she has trained and done some screen writing in California as well.   This fall, Alison will teach the 2 – 3 ½, 3 ½ – 5, and 4 ½ – 6 Year-Olds classes. 

Brieta Fass is a Northwood resident who just moved into NW IV a month ago.  She has a master’s degree in Applied Linguistics as well as a TESL Certificate from the University of California.  Brieta has taught English at a language institute in Chile, for Soka University of America, and for an adult education program in Los Angeles Unified School District.  This fall, she will teach Beginning Conversation, Advanced Speaking and Listening, and the After School English Workshop for Kids and Teens.

Allison Neeland has a master’s degree in Teaching English as a Second Language and a teaching certificate from Seattle Pacific University in Washington.  She also has a bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies from Connecticut College.  Allison has taught E.S.L., French and Spanish to high school students in Washington.  She has also taught E.S.L. to university students and newcomers to the U.S. in Washington.  Last winter, Allison taught More Grammatically Speaking here in the English Language Program.  This fall, she will teach English For Everyday Life.
