Child Development Center

The Child Development Center is a nationally accredited child care program. We welcome people to apply for teaching assistant positions who have an educational background or experience working with young children. Volunteers and temporary staff will have an opportunity to work under the leadership of our skilled team of early childhood educators in classrooms designed for children ages 2 1/2 - 5. For many of our children, English is a second language and enrollment at our center is their first experience with American culture. Working or volunteering at the Child Development Center is a wonderful opportunity to learn about cultural diversity. If you are interested in finding out more about positions at our center, please contact us at 764-4557 or at northwood@umich.edu.

English Language Program
The English Language Program offers ESL classes for adults and children of all ages, four semesters per year. Teachers with language teaching experience and relevant degrees are welcome to apply year-round. U-M students and others are also invited to gain valuable experience by working as teachers' assistants. Teachers' assistants help in children's and teen classes as well as in various projects outside of the classroom. In addition, native speakers of English are invited to volunteer just one hour per week as conversation or Classroom Partners.
