University Housing accepts applications for Move-In Makers and MIM Building Leaders on a rolling basis until all positions are filled. University Housing will contact you via the email address you provide to inform you of your application status. 

All volunteers will be contacted on the first Tuesday of every month:

  • May 1
  • June 5
  • July 3
  • August 7

All Move-In Makers are permitted to move into their residence halls beginning Friday, August 24, 2012, but no later than Saturday, August 25. MIMs must be on campus to attend a required information session scheduled for Friday, August 24. All MIM volunteers must be University Housing residents.

Submitting your application indicates that you have read and agree to the Move-In Maker Guidelines and Expectations.

Move-In Maker Building Leaders

The MIM Building Leaders are comprised of 41 students, primarily from the on campus population. The students are positioned so that each residence hall has three Building Leaders (with the exception of two for Fletcher Hall). Prior experience as a MIM is preferred for this position. The Leaders are expected to arrive on campus prior to the early move in process (August 16 for Fall 2012). In addition, Leaders are expected to be able to commit to the following:

  1. August 16, 2012: Onsite CC training
  2. August 17-20, 2012: Work with building team to prepare for Early Move-In and Fall Move-In
  3. August 24, 2012: Lead a group informational meeting

Responsibilities for MIM Building Leaders

As a Move-In Maker Building Leader, I will follow the Move-In Maker Guidelines and Expectations. In addition, I will:

  • Contact MIM team throughout the summer to create a work schedule during Move-In
  • Work closely with building MIM co-leaders
  • Work with the MIM Leadership team to create work schedule at the Community Centers (date TBD)
  • Act as liaison for MIM volunteers and seek answers for all questions asked
  • Ensure that I and MIM staff will conduct ourselves in an appropriate manner, remembering that we are representing the University of Michigan
  • Wear the designated Move-In Makers t-shirt during all scheduled shifts
  • Not accept tips or donations of any sort
  • Maintain a positive attitude and disposition at all times
  • Attend all required meetings
  • Distribute and discuss the MIM Guidelines and Responsibilities
  • Meet with the hall director to help create signs and posters for opening
  • Assign specific duties for my MIM team (i.e. run elevators, monitor front door, recycle, etc)
  • Monitor and track equipment and supplies—return supplies to housing administration at end of move-in
  • Greet vehicles promptly and assign a MIM to assist them unload their belongings

Compensation and benefits

MIM Building Leaders are compensated in various ways:

  • Gain effective leadership and organizational skills
  • Learn to work successfully as a team member and individually
  • Receive $100 in Dining Dollars as compensation

Move-In Maker Guidelines and Expectations

By submitting the following application, I agree to abide by the following guidelines:

  • I will seek out the answers to questions asked.
  • I will conduct myself in an appropriate manner, remembering that I am representing the University of Michigan and University Housing.
  • I will wear the designated MIM t-shirt during my scheduled shifts.
  • I will not accept tips or donations of any kind.
  • I will be on time for all scheduled meetings and shifts.
  • I will complete my responsibilities as designated.
  • I will attend all required meetings.
  • I will work a minimum of four shifts during Move-In week.
  • I will not solicit for any group or organization.
  • I will maintain a positive attitude at all times.
  • I will be respectful and courteous to all students, parents and staff.
  • I will check my email throughout the summer. (Your MIM Building Leader will be in contact with you periodically to create your work schedule.)
  • I will comply with rules, regulations and policies of University Housing.
  • I understand that failure to abide by the above stated guidelines will result in my student account being assessed $75 per day for early move-in fees.
