to Apply for Resstaff | to Maintain ResStaff Employment

Eligibility Requirements to Apply for ResStaff Position
The following eligibility requirements apply to applicants for all Residence Education Staff positions, except where noted. These requirements must be satisfied at the time of application and by the end of Winter Term 2008, as noted below. Failure to establish any requirement will result in the loss of any offered position.

Undergraduate applicants
All undergraduate applicants must achieve the following by the end of Fall 2007 term:

  • Completion of at least 3 terms of course work on a college or university campus (not including summers)
  • Completion of 36 credit hours of course work completed on a college or university campus (no advanced placement credits)
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5, without rounding. This requirement must be met both at the end of Fall Term and at the end of Winter Term.
  • First term undergraduate business school applicants fulfill the GPA requirement based upon their admittance to the business school. After their initial semester these students must meet the 2.5 GPA requirement as outlined.
  • The Residential College will be consulted for confirmation of academic good standing for all Residential College applicants.
  • Successful completion of Psychology 405

Graduate and Graduate Level Professional Degree applicants
All applicants in graduate programs or graduate professional degree programs must achieve the following by the end of Winter Term:

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 5.0 on an 8.0 scale, or 5.5 on a 9.0 scale (both without rounding). This requirement must be met both at the end of Fall 2007 and at the end of Winter 2008 Terms.

Note to All Applicants

GPAs will be checked at the end of the 2007 Fall term and the 2008 Winter term. Candidates who fail to meet the minimum GPA requirement at the end of Fall term will not be allowed to continue in the Selection process. New-hires who fail to meet these requirements at the end of Winter term will no longer be eligible for a staff position. Incoming transfer students will be asked to present their transcripts from previously attended schools.

Courses selected as pass/fail or credit/no credit will be counted only towards meeting the 36 credit hour requirement; they will have no impact on GPA.

Housing Student Conflict Resolution records will also be checked to determine if an applicant is eligible to be hired for a staff position.

It is the responsibility of the applicant to notify Housing Administration, 1500 SAB regarding any special circumstances (e.g., incompletes, grade changes, etc.) that may influence final GPA.

Eligibility Requirements to Maintain ResStaff Employment
Once employed by Residence Education, all staff members will be expected to uphold certain standards to ensure their academic success and successful Residence Staff performance.

Grades
Residence staff members are expected to meet minimum academic requirements throughout their ResStaff employment. Once hired, staff must achieve a 2.5 term GPA. Graduate students will be expected to achieve a 5.0 term GPA on an 8.0 scale or 5.5 term GPA on a 9.0 point scale. Staff grades are checked at the end of each semester. Any staff member who falls below the minimum term GPA requirement (2.50, 5.00, or 5.50) will be placed on probation or not be allowed to continue in their position; depending upon the circumstances. If a staff member falls below the term GPA requirement for two consecutive terms, he/she will be ineligible to retain their position.

Employment Period
Exact dates of employment are outlined in the Letter of Appointment (LOA) signed by each residence staff appointee at the time of offer.
