Introduction
APAs are responsible for linking residents, residence
staff and building organizations to appropriate academic support resources,
both within the residence hall and in the University community. APAs
provide academic advice and information, and plan programs in areas of
academic development to build scholarly community in the residence halls.
APAs are jointly supervised by the Academic Advising Coordinator and the Hall
Director (HD).
Time Commitment
20 hours per week, including
at least 6 regular APA office hours per week, weekly building and
APA staff meetings and serving at the Community Center.
Responsibilities
- Advising and counseling residents on academic success strategies,
intellectual exploration, and development as engaged scholars.
- Assisting the Hall Director in the planning and implementation
of required staff training.
- Referring students to appropriate academic resources, services
and special academic programs.
- Planning, implementing and documenting special academic programs
and services for residents and staff.
- Working closely with the residence staff and LSA academic advising
to enhance the academic experience of the residents.
- Collaborating with residence staff to build scholarly community
in the hall.
- Employing creative communication strategies to inform residents
and resstaff of strategies, resources and programs supporting academic
success.
- Participating in the student residence staff selection process.
- Compiling monthly reports of statistics and activities for submission
to the Academic Advising Coordinator and the Hall Director
- Build community and promote awareness through working a scheduled
shift at the Community Center.
Special
Qualifications
Graduate students and seniors
are preferred; however all qualified applicants will be considered.
Compensation
100% room & board,
basic cable, and the use of a mini-fridge for the academic year.
