Introduction
MPAs assist their Hall Director with administrative, advising and counseling responsibilities related to the wellness of students of color residing in the residence hall community. MPAs also supervise Minority Peer Advisor Assistants (MPAA) in the residence halls where applicable and provide crisis management assistance to staff and residents. MPAs are supervised by the Director of the Minority Peer Advisor Program and the Hall Director of their hall.

Time Commitment
30 hours per week

Responsibilities of the Director of Multicultural Programs

  • Assisting the Hall Director in the planning and implementation of required staff orientation.
  • Preparing reports as required by the Director of the Minority Peer Advisor Program and Hall Director
  • Assisting in conflict resolution pertaining to social justice and diversity concerns within the residence hall community.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of minority lounge usage.
  • Assisting with academic and personal advising in order to assist students in making academic and personal decisions that are consistent with their life goals.
  • Advising, assisting & supporting the multicultural organization in development and coordination of student of color programs in the residence hall.
  • Planning and implementing a minimum of one cultural program per month for residents and staff.
  • Maintain at least 4 hours of open office hours.
  • Assisting in the education of students and staff to provide education on how to blend differences: particularly those associated with race, ethnicity and culture.
  • Interfacing with students of color organizations as a resource and conduit of information.
  • Serve as an advocate for students of color and marginalized population in the residence halls.
  • Fulfill all of the administrative responsibilities outlined in the Resident Advisor job description.

Special Qualifications
Previous resident staff experience or extensive experience working with students of color and student organizations.

Compensation
100% room & board, basic cable, a cash stipend of $2,775, and the use of a mini-fridge for the academic year.
