Introduction
MPAAs are jointly supervised by the Director of the Minority Peer Advisor Program and the Hall Director of their hall, and have direct responsibility to the Minority Peer Advisor in their building. They are responsible for assisting underrepresented students of color residing in the residence halls and maintaining a community that is safe and welcoming to all residents in the building.


Time Commitment
20 hours per week

Responsibilities

  • Identifying, being accessible to, and establishing ongoing communication with students of color in the hall.
  • Assisting in orientation of students of color to the hall and campus.
  • Advising in the multicultural student of color organization in the hall, under the direction of the MPA.
  • Counseling and advising residents, making referrals to other units when appropriate.
  • Assisting students of color, in relation to various student governmental, political, and regulatory bodies.
  • Assisting in conflict resolution pertaining to social justice and diversity concerns within the residence hall community.
  • Keeping the MPA informed about any event or condition which affects an individual or individuals within the building.
  • Assisting with various aspects of academic advising in order to assist students of color in making academic decisions that are consistent with their personal goals.
  • Maintain at least 4 hours of open office hours.
  • Assisting in the education of students and staff to educate on diversity awareness associated with race, ethnicity and culture.
  • Assist in maintaining social justice education within the residence community.
  • Fulfill all of the administrative responsibilities outlined in the Resident Advisor job description.

Compensation
100% of room & board, basic cable, and the use of a mini-fridge for the academic year.
