Sophomore
Year Experience
University Housing is preparing to embark on a new initiative focused
on the second year student living experience living in the residence
halls at the University of Michigan.
This program will focus on the developmental, cognitive and social elements
common to the sophomore year.
SYE Advisor is directly supervised by the Hall Director. In order to
succeed in this role, forming active collaborations and partnerships
with both students and Residence Staff, are essential.
Time Commitment
20 hours per week
Responsibilities
- Implement training that empowers Residence Staff with methods to
target the developmental needs and enhance the residential experience
of second-year students and creates ownership of the program amongst
the Residence Staff.
- Collaborate with University Housing offices and other constituent
groups to develop relationships which achieve SYE program goals and
provide the support needed for these collaborations to succeed..
- Assess the needs of sedond-year students to ensure
these needs are being met by the SYE program.
- Flexibility to accompany students on programs, both on and off campus,
typically occurring on evenings and weekends.
- Develop programs which create a viable alternative for students who
- Plan and implement programs throughout the year in specific outcome
areas defined in the SYE Mission and Goals and through needs assessment
with such groups as residents, Hall Directors, and Residence Staff.
- Develop publicity and a marketing brand which attracts students to
and creates awareness of the SYE program.
- Referring students to resources and services to help them to successfully
transition into the University community.
- Compile a monthly report of activities, programs, and referrals.
- Maintain an accurate record of how the SYE budget is utilized.
- Maintain a bulletin board regularly which advertises programs and
support resources that the SYE program offers.
- Fulfill all of the advising, counseling, programming and administrative
responsibilities outlined in the Resident Advisor job description.
Compensation
100% room and board, basic
cable, and the use of a mini-fridge for the academic year.
