housing services: Refrigerator Request/Rental

Welcome
You must read this page and accept the following agreement before proceeding to the online application.

The Agreement

University Housing will agree to rent the student named on this agreement one refrigerator, of the type indicated to be used in the room assigned to them at the time of move-in. Due to limited availability, signing this request does not guarantee that the student will receive a refrigerator. Refrigerator/Microwave Combos are not available to Baits residents. Rental refrigerators are not available to residents of Martha Cook or the Lawyer’s Club. Refrigerator/Microwave Combos are standard in all Oxford rooms and need not be requested. Refrigerators are reserved in each individual residence hall by the order in which the request(s) are received in our office. Prior to move in, you will be notified of your status of receiving a refrigerator. You are also asked to contact us at anytime if the refrigerator is no longer needed. Failure to contact us by August 15th or not at all, may result in a cancellation fee being assessed to you (see Cancellation of Agreement below). You will be billed the full rental fee (Fall/Winter term). Any credit due for those requesting Fall term only will be issued if the proper procedures for returning the refrigerator were followed and it is determined that Housing has possession of the refrigerator at the end of the term.

Roommate(s)

  • Do not wait to see if your future roommate(s) will also be requesting a refrigerator before you send in your request.
  • If we receive more than one request for the same room, only the first request will be honored.
  • Additional request(s) will be considered as duplicates, they will be kept on file but not processed.
  • Once you are notified who your roommate(s) will be, we encourage you to discuss with them whether or not a refrigerator (or microwave) would be an item they plan on bringing to campus.
  • If you find out that your roommate will be bringing a refrigerator from home and wish to cancel your request, you have until August 15th to notify our office (see Cancellation of Agreement below).

Pick up and Delivery

  • Pick-up: Students residing in the following residence halls: Alice Lloyd, Baits I, Baits II, Betsy Barbour, Bursley, Couzens, East Quad, Fletcher, Markley, Mosher-Jordan, Helen Newberry, South Quad, Stockwell, and West Quad, are required to pick up their refrigerator from a specific location, located within each residence hall. Reserved refrigerators are distributed on a first come, first serve basis. Most halls provide a dolly/cart to help with moving the refrigerator. When picking up the refrigerator, the students are required to sign a Refrigerator Condition form. Upon arrival, please check your residence hall mailbox for information concerning pick up location, date(s), and time(s). Not picking up your requested refrigerator during the specified date(s) and time(s) or not at all, may result in forfeiting your chance of receiving a refrigerator or being charged a cancellation fee.

Cancellation of Agreement

  • All cancellation requests after August 15th are subject to a cancellation fee (Small 2.5 cubic foot refrigerators $10 & Refrig/Micro Combo $25).
  • Cancellations prior to August 15th will not be charged a cancellation fee and can be made by contacting our office at (734) 763-6294 or e-mail us at refrigerator@umich.edu.
  • Requested refrigerators that are not picked up by September 15th, will result in the request being cancelled and the student will be subject to a cancellation fee.
  • Once the refrigerator is delivered/picked up, the student is responsible for filling out a cancellation form, available at the Community Center, and for returning the refrigerator to Housing Facilities. Please contact the Facilities department in your Residence Hall to make arrangements for drop off.

Change in room assignment

  • Students are responsible for moving their refrigerators to new rooms in the same Residence Hall.
  • Refrigerators are not to leave the Residence Hall from which they were leased. If the student moves to a different hall or out of Housing completely, a refrigerator cancellation form must be filled out and the refrigerator must be cleaned and returned to the Facilities office. Refrigerators left in the room will be subject to a retrieval fee. If another refrigerator is desired, a new rental agreement must be filled out for the new building and this new request is subject to availability.
  • Subletting to someone else is permitted if moving out of hall. Forms are at the hall desk.
  • The student is responsible for notifying the Housing Business Services Office (76)3-6294 of any of the above changes in this rental agreement.

Refrigerator Condition, Damages and Stolen Units

  • At the end of the rental agreement period, the refrigerator must be cleaned and returned to a designated area within the building determined by the Facilities Department. The student will be notified of the location, date(s) and time(s) prior to move-out. Failure to comply may result in the student being charged a fee.
  • The student shall leave the assigned refrigerator in the same condition as indicated on the Refrigerator Condition Form filled out at time of rental. Student will pay for any and all damage and deterioration to or loss of the refrigerator other than normal wear. Normal wear does not include scratches, dents, stains, breakage or the like that did not exist prior to the time the student first took possession of the refrigerator.
  • The student is responsible if the refrigerator is stolen, vandalized, destroyed or the like. In the event of such a loss, student shall pay University Housing $150.00 for replacement of the Small 2.5 cubic foot refrigerator or $400.00 for the Refrig/Micro Combo.
