Victim's Rights
The University as a whole is dedicated to providing excellent and sensitive support to the victims of crime on campus. There are various counseling and support agencies on campus that residents may be referred to, based on their individual needs. Referrals may be provided by resident staff, professional staff, or by a Housing Security or DPS officer. The University's Campus Safety Handbook provides detailed resource information for students dealing with criminal or non-criminal incidents, property loss, mental health issues, personal crises, and various other situations. Under specific circumstances defined by state law, crime victims may be eligible for compensation benefits from the State of Michigan Crime Victim's Compensation Board. Additional information pertaining to victim's rights can be obtained by contacting a representative of the Department of Public Safety (763-3434) or the Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Center (SAPAC) at their office (998-9368) or their crisis line (936-3333).
