Contract Changes After Signing

Room Swaps
Any two students who have a 2008-2009 residence hall/Northwood III contract can initiate a room swap at any time beginning Tuesday, April 1 2008 through Friday, August 15, 2008. All students involved in the change must come to the Housing Information Office, 1011 Student Activities Building, to complete the paperwork to effect the swap.

Students wishing to initiate a room swap after August 15, 2008 will have to wait until move-in week to complete the room swap at your hall's front desk. Room swaps made to circumvent the waiting list will be rendered null and void. MLC students cannot do a room swap outside of their program.

Beginning March 19, 2008, the web based RoomSwap Bulletin Board will be available exclusively for fall term ads.

Waitlist
Residents with signed 2008-2009 contracts who want to move to another hall or want a different room/apartment or room/apartment type, even in the same hall/Northwood III, must place their name on a waitlist by going to the Housing Information Office on Wednesday, March 19, between 8:00 am and 3:30 pm. The waitlist form permits students to make additional choices for other halls or rooms. Picture ID will be required. If you want to be roommates with a student who has also signed a contract, both must fill out a waitlist form and participate as roommates at the same time.

On Friday, March 21, a drawing will be held to rank order the wait list. Students will not be contacted by the Housing Information Office prior to the requested room/apartment change being made. Changes can be made from March through August. If a space is or becomes available, the student will automatically be moved and notified of the new assignment.

Entering your name on the waitlist is not a guarantee the desired change will be made. If a change is not made, you are still responsible for the original contract you signed. University Housing reserves the right to make an assignment that overrides the hall waitlists.

Contract Reassignment
For the Fall Term, you can only reassign a contract to a newly- entering fall term student who is eligible for your space. Do not sign a contract thinking you can “sell” it to a friend who is currently enrolled on campus. Reassignments will not begin until August 1, 2008.

The web-based Contract Reassignment Bulletin Board will be available to advertise to newly entering fall students.

Contract Termination
Residents may not cancel their residence hall/Northwood III contract to move to another facility not operated by the University residence hall system, such as private off-campus housing, a fraternity, sorority, or an Inter-Cooperative Council house.

Reasons that support a contract termination include when a resident:

  • signs a contract in advance of enrollment and then becomes ineligible to enroll, or does not enroll in the University
  • withdraws from the University (will not be taking classes) or otherwise becomes ineligible to live in University Housing before the contract expires
  • marries
  • leaves Ann Arbor during the term of the contract to pursue a study abroad program or off-campus internship.
