Food Tips
-
Eat lower on the food chain: less meat and more vegetables.
- Take only what you can eat!
- When you do have leftovers, eat them.
- Buy local, organic, non-GMO foods. For example, organic coffee and Fair Trade coffee are available at many on-campus (South Quad's Café ConXion, Bursley's Blue Apple and all other residence hall retail dining establishments) campus area locations (Café Ambrosia, Amer's and Beansters). The production of this coffee protects local economies and the environment. Bring your own mug and save some change and help out the environment!
- Support local food co-ops such as the People's Food Co-Op. This reduces transportation costs and helps the local economy.
- Residential Dining Services (RDS) offers many vegetarian options, and is working on increasing organic, local and non-GMO options. To learn more, contact the RDS Nutrition Specialist at eatsmart@umich.edu.
- Click here for recipes and information from Dining Services about the fresh ingredients in their meals.
