Our Perspective
While we've been recycling for over 18 years, our present sustainability initiative is only a few years old. Sustainability is not an easy concept to understand and we are still learning. We like to think of sustainability as resource conservation "with an attitude" that surely involves conserving resources; reducing our use of them and of course recycling most everything we do need to toss at some point. The difference between simple resource conservation and sustainability is acquiring a broader appreciation of balance in nature, what it really takes to create the products we use, obtaining maximum use from every one, using less and finally recycling. Ultimately, it takes living more simply. In our culture, most decision-making is weighed by its fiscal good sense. We should learn to make decisions by the "Three E's". 3Es (certainly) considers Economy but also considers the Environmental impact and impact on humans (Equity) as well. If all three are regarded equally before selecting a course of action, it should lead you towards a less wasteful, more sustainable outcome. William McDonough, renowned architect and Sustainability advocate, likes to phrase it as weighing life's decisions by considering their impact on the 7th generation. If it will impact them in a negative way, you may wish to reconsider your choice(s). We hope this helps.
